They also have a new rule starting last week that you may not have your personal cell phone on your person at work, even if it’s on silent. Most everybody is fighting that one…on the basis that it’s discrimination because they don’t make the physicians leave their cell phones off (and many of them work for the hospital as hospitalists..they have no office hours, they just see inpatients, who have to follow up with their personal MD when discharged)many nurses use their iphones for work related applications (calculator, drug guides, look up dignosis/lab result normals) Personally I think the rule is meant to deter them from using the iphones for email/texting while at work, because I see that a lot. Frankly, my cell stays in my pocket…I’ve had to use it before when the phone system went out and it makes a handy flashlight in a dark room.(like when both the generator and the back up failed last year)
