I really like this post- I have RA and I’ve been trying to learn more about mindfulness techniques for pain management, I haven’t read the book you mentioned but did read “Full Catastrophe Living”, which encourages doing body scans where you acknowledge and notice the pain, but don’t give it any more weight in your mind than you do to other sensations in the body. It’s been kind of freeing for me to both not to have to try to work to ignore it, but also to learn not to focus on it. Your idea of the lava lamp fits in really well with that and will definitely give me a new way to visualize that!
