(Technical) Flare

My body continues to have great days, but I wish I could say the same about my tech toys. This morning, my laptop computer breathed its last breath. This makes three computers that have died spectacular deaths in the past year and a half.

First it was my ultra-portable HP, then it was my MacBook Air, and now it’s my regular HP. (I used to work full time as a web designer/information architect, which is part of the reason why I had so many computers.)

At this moment, I’m typing on a 9 year old laptop computer that I had tucked away in the office closet. It still turns on,  but that doesn’t say much…every few minutes it overheats, and immediately shuts down. I don’t exactly know which version of Windows it’s running, but at least I didn’t see a DOS prompt when I powered it up!

And unfortunately, where I live, purchasing a new computer isn’t as easy as logging on to Amazon.com or driving down to the local BestBuy. I hope to fix this problem as soon as possible, however, and get back to my regular blogging activities.

Frustrating, I know…but I’d much rather have my computers throw a fit than my body. Plus, the first few days of Spring are starting to appear, and that’s always a wonderful reason to spend more time outside, away from the computer.

Stay tuned…for the next adventure of Rheumatoid Arthritis Guy!

Poor soul. I went through computer withdrawal during the recent hurricane. Now in your case it may be a bit longer. Not sure if you are so far out that you can’t get deliveries but I sure hope you aren’t gone for too long. You bring such a ray of sunshine so often into my life, I will be missing you. Don’t be gone too long but do enjoy the spring. We are entering the fall here. But I will say that since that extreme summer heat has hit the road (hope I am not cursing myself here), my joints are feeling a bit better. Not like they are in a vice :-)

RA Guy, you’ll have to create a chart that graphs the withdrawal levels from all of your readers while you’re away. I’m sure that even today, on “Day 1″ of “Where in the World is RA Guy?” they’re already spiking off the charts! :)

I’m sure with your wonderful weather and your lengthy and hopefully permanent stint of flare-free-ness, you’re enjoying your forced departure, hopefully knowing you are missed from our midst. :)

    Hi RA Guy,

I just came across your website whilst searching for computers for people with arthritis. I’m OA girl (@ 36!) in need of a PC I can use for work – what did you buy in the end??

My hands no longer type as fast or as long as I would like them to & I can’t keep holding pencils & using them to type – it’s not a good look!! If you have any suggestions I’d love to hear them. I’ve been told the touch screens won’t work, neither will the projected keyboards so am think of going for a apple keyboard.

    Hope you’re having a superhero day : )
