Visual Journal: My Story

Over the past few months, I’ve grown increasingly frustrated. Using a keyboard and mouse has become quite a challenge on most days, due to the chronic pain and inflammation in my hands.

I’ve always considered myself to be a designer and not a writer, though…so I recently took out some of my tools that I haven’t used in ages (cutting pad, metal straight edge, blade cutter, and glue sticks). I put my printer to work, and started to cut and paste away.

I quickly found that there was something extremely therapeutic about creating a visual journal, both in being able to perform actions that I thought were no longer possible with my hands, and in finding a way to communicate without words.

This is my story, as told by images that make my soul smile.

I feel your pain and those are awesome pictures. I do have a question for you. Did you ever try the paraffin wax? Mine is not nearly as progressed as yours but I have found that dipping my hands in wax before I use them alot and then again after really seems to help.

By the way. I love your posts and you have made my day quite a few times. Thank you for taking the time and sharing your story with us.

I have ‘briefly’ thought about doing something like this with old magazines and now realize from seeing this beautiful offering of beauty that I am thinking like the old(er) lady that I am. Using items from the web will be much easier and will offer many more choices than magazines, which are so limiting… thanks once again RA Guy for yet another uplifting idea.
