Pill Organizer

Did I take my pills this morning? Did I take my pills this afternoon? Did I take my pills this evening? In the past, Rheumatoid Arthritis Guy used to ask himself these questions quite often. With no way of knowing the answer, I was often left with choosing between a) not take the pills on the assumption that I already took them, or b) go ahead and take the pills on the risk that I was doubling my normal dosage.

All of this confusion has been removed since I started using a weekly pill organizer. I chose one that allowed me to set up the entire week at once, and which had each day divided into morning, noon, evening, and bedtime. With just a quick glance I can immediately tell if there was any dosage that I forgot to take.

And the best past about the pill organizer that I chose is that it allows me to carry around just the strip for each day. Each night before I got to sleep, as I finish my day’s medication, I return that strip to the tray and take out the strip for the following day. Not only does this allow for a more discrete presence on my desk or nightstand, but it also allows me to slip it in my pocket if I am going to be on the go for a large part of the day.

I use a similar system, and I also set the alarm on my cell phone, to remind me of the next time to take a dose. Alarm goes off, take the dose, reset the alarm for the next dosage time, and don’t have to worry about it.

That one looks useful! I’ve seen 3×7, but not 4×7. I also haven’t seen ones that allow you to remove a single day to cart about when you’re on the go. Thank you. I’ll look for one next time I’m out and about.

I have done my hubbies pills in the same kind of 4×7 organizer, but it didn’t have the removeable days. I always end up with a little baggie of his meds in my purse when I go out. Will have to look for this one. (actually 2, cuz he has so many pills I set up 2 weeks at a time, one of my least favorite chores since he is on at least a dozen meds, plus more supplements)
I have a circular weekly organizer I use when I go on trips, and every Monday and Tuesday after I take my MTX and Enbrel, I email myself to remember next weeks dose..the email stays until I take the dose.

Like Amy, I set a cell phone alarm. My phone is capable of storing up to 5 different recurring alarms, so it’s set to go off twice a day at the same times every day, and I never have to think about it. My only problem is that sometimes I ignore it!

I like your pill kit! I have one too, but yours seems more flexible since you can remove parts of it. Mine is an AM-PM kit and it’s about the size of an old-fashioned pencil case. I’m almost always home at the times I need to take my meds, but when I know I’m going to be out, I put the pills for that time into a cute little metal pillbox to carry in my purse. I bought an extra-pretty one to cheer myself up – it has a picture of two healing hands forming the shape of a heart.
