Bath + Detox

Yesterday was one of those days in which Rheumatoid Arthritis Guy had to take extra special care of himself.

Throughout the day I took three naps. In the evening I had an aromatherapy session while I listened to relaxing music. In the morning, I kicked things up a notch and tried to ensure that my bath (I haven’t showered in years…sitting down is much easier on my feet and knees) was not only a wonderful start to the day, but that it was also a therapeutic moment during which I could begin to focus some of my thoughts and energies on the healing process which I will once again pass through.

I turned on the hot water – kept the cold tap turned off – and prepared the tub for a Bendetta Seaweed Bath. Once I entered the tub, I treated myself to a mug of Triple Leaf Tea detox tea. The experience was so nice that I spent almost an hour soaking my pains away. With my first goals of the day accomplished, I had all the confidence I needed in order to get through what ended up being another difficult, while at the same time relaxing, day.

Bendetta Seaweed Bath

Benedetta Seaweed BathThis amazing bath combines three therapies for a truly indulgent, cleansing experience. Strengthening, calming and detoxifying, this Seaweed Bath is all that and so much more. Our Bath combines the effects of Balneotherapy (bathing in water hot enough as to be therapeutic), Thalassotherapy (therapy from the sea) and the power or Aromatherapy. Seaweeds are known thyroid tonics, aiding the natural processes of the body. This bath will leave your skin silky smooth. Our Bath oil is a blend of strengthening, immune enhancing and antiviral Essential Oils. Combined with the relaxing and purging effects of a hot bath, the union of these three therapies makes this Seaweed Bath a powerful, luxurious treatment.

Triple Leaf Tea Detox Tea

Detox TeaFor thousands of years, the Chinese have been using herbs to clear away toxins. Today, we are exposed to increasing levels of environmental pollutants, smoke, caffeine, food toxins, etc. More than twenty potent Chinese purification herbs have been used to create our Detox Tea. Traditionally, these herbs were used to support the healthy function of the liver, kidneys, lungs and blood, and to cleanse the body of toxins. They were considered to help promote clear, healthy skin, increase the flow of energy (chi) to the body and mind, and promote calmer, more positive and peaceful emotions. Treat yourself to our delicious and effective revitalizing tea on a regular basis. Make periodic cleansings and daily purification a normal part of your regime.

Paraffin Bath

Rheumatoid Arthritis Guy had a “home spa” moment earlier this week – and he loved it! All that was missing was a massage.

I broke out my new Revlon Paraffin Bath, melted the wax (in just around an hour!) and dipped my hands. I wrapped my hands with the included plastic sleeves, and them covered them with the included thermal mitts. The warmth was wonderful.

After this, I dipped my feet – one at a time. It felt so good that I did not want to take my feet out. (My feet have been hurting more than my hands in this recent flare.) When I ordered this item I wasn’t sure if my size 11 feet would fit, but they did with no problem!

I chose this model over other models because of its quick melt feature – which did not let me down. I am happy to have this paraffin bath in my house, and I look forward to many more “home spa” sessions. Maybe I’ll combine them with Monday Night Football…I can’t wait!

My Favorite Gadget

A few months ago, Rheumatoid Arthritis Guy placed an order for a wide array of assistive devices to make living with rheumatoid arthritis just a little bit easier.

My package included all types of gloves: gloves to prevent ulnar drift, arthritis compression gloves, and padded gloves for when I am walking with crutches. I ordered a cutting knife with a vertical handle (it’s awesome, by the way) as well as wide-grip padding for my utensils and other hand-held objects like pens and toothbrushes. I ordered different “toys” to help improve my hand strength, as well as different types of wrist wraps…and the list goes on.

One item has risen to the top, though, in terms of frequency of use and the amount of help it provides in relieving pressure and pain in my hands – the Multi Opener. It’s great for soda and water bottles, for pull ring tabs and cans, for bags and boxes, for bottle caps, and for jars of all sizes.

I love my Multi Opener, and it can always be found in it’s convenient location right in the middle of my kitchen!

Rheumatoid Arthritis & Tea

Rheumatoid Arthritis Guy is a big fan of tea.

I have a large plastic bin in my kitchen that has probably about fifty different boxes of tea. I have teas for all occasions – winter teas, summer teas, and everything in between. I have teas for upset stomachs. I have teas for cold season and for improved breathing. I have teas to take when I am anxious, and teas to take before I fall asleep.

Quite often, I finish my meals with a big mug of hot tea (no sugar). The two types I drink the most: green tea and mint tea.

Last year I purchased a glass teapot and blooming teas; dried flowers infused with different teas. When placed in the pot of hot water, the flowers open up and release the tea. It’s lots of fun, and a great conversation piece.

I have probably more than half of the Celestial Seasonings teas. I have teas purchased in China. I have smoky green teas purchased from a Japanese department store on Fifth Avenue. I have blueberry tea in a nice wooden box that my mother bought me from Alaska. I even have Russian tea. I have tea my sister-in-law bought from Egypt.

I have yerba mate from Argentina, along with the obligatory metal straw. I have drank coca leaf tea to lessen altitude-sickness while in the Andes mountains. (And in case you are wondering, coca tea has absolutely nothing to do with cocaine.)

Last but not least, I even have tea for my arthritis. My favorite is the Joint Comfort blend from Yogi Teas. I like to prepare a large thermos of this tea and drink it throughout to day. I only recently got serious about drinking this Joint Comfort tea regularly – which means that I just ran out. Luckily, six more boxes from Amazon are on their way.

Do you drink tea to help with you rheumatoid arthritis? If so, what kind?

African devil’s claw—also known for its joint support—creates a distinctive, soothing blend. Enjoy a cup of Joint Comfort™ tea and move freely throughout your day.*
